The
809 PureView device from Nokia, which comes fixed with a 41-megapixel
camera, is surely the last big thing that we have seen from the Symbian
platform. The camera of the device pitches it will ahead of others to the
top-of-the-range devices and a comparison between the performance of 808
PureView images with those of HTC One S and iPhone 4S shows what a 41-mp camera
is capable of.
The two other devices which are touted for their cameras are HTC One S and
iPhone 4S. So it is only fair to construct a comparison between the three
devices and to see which of the three performs best when shooting images.
As it turned out, the 41-mp Carl Zeiss lens in Nokia 808 PureView is able to capture a lot of details in an image, so much so that you may do up to three times lossless zoom on it, crop the image and still be able to view the details in it perfectly well. Such zooming and cropping with details is not available in the other two devices.
When testing the three devices for automatic settings and doing a 100% crop, iPhone 4S delivers a rather blurred image, HTC One S has the most vibrant and colorful image but the colors seem bit too saturated, while the image from PureView is fairly real and clear, better of all three.
Other images shot by PureView show excellent sharpness and no noise in the image at all. Moreover, when it comes to focusing on detail, PureView is definitely better than its other two rivals. The interesting thing is that even at automatic settings, PureView can capture images perfectly well, so the device can be a great choice for both professionals as well as amateurs.
The interface of the device is also great, with Nokia having added a number of new features to allow seamless photography. For instance, you can zoom into an image through a single touch or change focus mode by holding your finger on the screen. Since the phone itself is geared towards photography, so is the interface.
